Last month, AHRC New York City celebrated National Disabilities Employment Awareness Month with an event at the New York Stock Exchange. The event recognized the many partnerships AHRC has with businesses across the city that employ the wonderful and engaging people this organization serves.

The night had the theme of Jobopoly, in which attendees participated in raffles by engaging account executives, visiting business representatives, and other networking activities, all of which were designated by Monopoly-esque property cards.

Speaking to an audience made up of representatives from various New York-area businesses, Steve Towler, Associate Executive Director for AHRC, explained how Employment and Business Services has grown from a single job placement in the Bronx 28 years ago to in 2014 helping over 1500 people with disabilities secure employment.

Mr. Towler then recognized a number of partners of AHRC New York City who over the past year have provided excellent employment opportunities to many of the people they serve. Among the mentioned honorees was The Weeks Lerman Group who routinely engage AHRC members with disabilities for kit compilation and other assignments. Would that we could all be so happy in our work and lives – they are a true inspiration!

Several of the honorees expressed their appreciation for the partnership they have with AHRC NYC. Among them, our very own Carol Bleiweiss, who attended the meeting, was quoted, “In this crazy business world we live in, this is the one feel good part. I’m grateful that AHRC gives us the opportunity to get involved.”
